The following is a SM post from a couple years ago, when summer travel was as simple as hopping in the family truckster and heading (for us) south, with giddy visions of several 64 oz gas station Diet Cokes and twice as many bathroom breaks dancing in our mask-free heads! Ah, summer.

The Answer is “Yes!”
We just booked our first cruise, and let me tell you the one thing I’ve learned about cruises so far: That per-person fee they quote you? You can toss that right into the ocean.
Notes from the Great American Beach Vacation //2
I like to collect "facts" about the places I visit. As we are in Florida this week for a good ol' Great American Beach Vacation, I thought I'd share some of the "facts" I learned/made up this week!
Notes from the Great American Beach Vacation //1
Had a chance to take the family out on a boat for a few hours yesterday.
But What About the Waves?
In which a poor facsimile of Hemingway-an dialogue is used to describe a common family vacation scene.
Aside – Road Trip 2018
I listened to a Hemingway book during our drive down to Florida, so tonight's post, which is meant to relate a fairly common parental culinary struggle, is written (in a very poor imitation) in his honor. The waves were tall and dark green. There was much foam. The flag flying above the distant estación de … Continue reading Aside – Road Trip 2018
Aside //6 – Embracing (Y)our Identity
I was on Google Maps today, looking up the precise coordinates of a Canadian city I plan to visit for work in the next few weeks, when I realized that you can click on certain location names and it will pop-up basic information about the location. Among other things, this includes a photo which, I … Continue reading Aside //6 – Embracing (Y)our Identity
Author’s Aside //1 – “Traveling”
This is the part of the (blogging) program where I start to wonder if using this format to practice and purvey "fiction" was a wise choice because fiction is so darn difficult. Who knew?! A magical time to be alive
My wife and I recently visited the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. What a grand and beautiful place. And a great reminder that the late 1800s would have been a MAGICAL time to be alive. Until you got a toothache or an infected toenail and ended up dying in a fevered sweat on one of … Continue reading A magical time to be alive
Finally, a Campaign to Get Excited About!
I want to give everyone a heads up about a Kickstarter campaign which I will be launching in the very near future: I’ll be designing a vehicle for parents or guardians who struggle with children who argue over where they’re going to sit on trips. The basic design is just like a normal car or … Continue reading Finally, a Campaign to Get Excited About!
On Prejudging My Fellow Man
(Image Source) I was at the airport, and there was a guy who I, as an old, out of touch man, would call a trendy young dude. He had on the REALLY skinny jeans, a knit cap, and what looked like bowling shoes. He was also writing in a journal. I was tempted at first … Continue reading On Prejudging My Fellow Man
On Understanding your Fellow Man
I was in bumper-to-bumper traffic the other day, on a one-lane entrance ramp waiting to get on the expressway like appox. 100 other commuters. We were all moving no more than 2 mph, and it was stop-and-go at that. Despite the fact that there was literally nowhere I could go, there was a woman behind … Continue reading On Understanding your Fellow Man
