There’s SOMETHING Lying Dormant in All of Us!

SOMETHING super.

The other day I was watching Daredevil on Netflix. I love the show, mainly because the titular character, who happens to be blind, has an otherworldly ability to not only fight like a ninja but to take punishing abuse from his multiple adversaries. I’m watching him absorb punch after punch, allowing himself to be pummeled with all kinds of objects about the head, neck, torso, and limbs; blood and mucus are flying, his eyes and face are swelling, the tension is rising faster than a time-lapsed muffin on Pillsbury commercial!

And yet time after time he gets up, fights back against the ne’er-do-wells, the rapscallions, the scourges of polite society, eventually claiming the victory in the name of justice and righteousness!!

And as I’m watching, a domineering spirit as old as time swells within my chest, and I think, “Yes! I could do this! This is an option for me! I could be a vigilante justice warrior. I may not yet know all of the moves, but my pain tolerance is on-point, and my heart is true. Mark my words: I could take that kind of punishment in the name of protecting others, I’m certain of it!

There’s a superhero lying dormant in all of us!!”

And then the next day I acquired a sinus infection. And, for a moment – just a moment – I considered, between elongated moans, Googling the phrases “can a man’s face literally explode from a sinus infection” and “legal homemade tranquilizers” and “crying in the workplace.”

I guess I’m not quite “ready” for the “vigilante lifestyle.”
